Long overdue
Finally bagged this one. The radiating afternoon heat made it quite hot... and the burn scar from last October's fire was plainly visible.

Mt Wilson Roundup
Peak 7 of 7 in the Mt Wilson area so I took the easy route from the parking lot to the tree next to the Cafe. Pretty cool area!

I've climbed this several times from the bottom and it's always a good hike!

Finally hiked to the top
I've been to the top of Mt. Wilson many times by car, and even looked through the 60 inch telescope on top, but I finally hiked to the summit, via the Mt. Wilson trail, on February 6, 2016. The trail was surprisingly lush after the first couple of miles, with lots of oak, pine, and ferns to keep the trail nice and shady. Near the top great views of Baldy and co. opened up to the East. It was well-worth doing and I'm glad I can check this one off the proper way -- hiking instead of driving.

With a group of three from Chantry Flats via the Gabrialino Trail to Sturtevant Falls and Camp Sturtevant, then Sturtevant Trail to Mt. Wilson, and down the Upper Winter Creek Trail to Chantry Flats. First Time.
Climbed with Sierra Club's WTC in 2012 as a 14 mile conditioning hike. Great fun, and a nice day hike!

En Route to Mt. Harvard
Drove the road from Red Box to summit area after checking off Occidental Peak. Dropped down on Mt. Wilson Toll Rd to Harvard, then reversed course. Hike back up at high noon was hot. Views of LA were good despite some haze.

Wilson Trail from Sierra Madre
15 miles round trip with nearly 5,000 elevation gain. 8 hours of fun. Trail has definitely some loving volunteers keeping it up. Got very hot on the way out as there is no shade toward to bottom. Great first peak in my new home of LA.
Mount Wilson was one of my favorite training grounds when I lived in LA. Up Chantry Flat/Sturtevant/Manzanita Ridge is the most popular route and probably my favorite due to great views and a great overall trail.
The Toll Road up Eaton is fun but looooong.
The Mount Wilson trail from Sierra Madre is long and has the maximum elevation and incline of any of the trails. It's an awesome training route but has some bees and other obstacles to watch out for.
The Wilson Trail from Chantry/Gabrileno and up the east side of Wilson is a whole bunch of fun. I did that in crampons in February of 2011 and it was a blast and is hardly traveled.
Point being, Wilson is a great mountain with tons of routes. Give it a shot. I've got some pics and gps logs on my blog site summitascents.com. If you have any questions about any of the routes, I'm always happy to help.

From Red Box via Toll Rd.
Dropped back down to road after bagging Disappointment and San Gabriel, then walked the blacktop to the top of Wilson for third peak of the day. Rescued two girls who had come up from Chantry Flat without realizing how far it was.
