I've been to Mt. Wilson before, but 6/11/2022 was the first time that I stood on the highest publically accessible point on the mountain (according to the Hundred Peaks Section, it's a short distance from the snack bar). I was there around 4 pm and noticed quite a few bugs during that time.
Via Chantry Flat
Feels good to come back 7 years later and to repeat this hike. Perfect conditions. Wild flowers were stunning. Views were appreciated. Company was mellow. Just what I needed as I prepare for the Mountaineers Route.
Did a big loop with Chris prepping for CO Trail: 22 miles, 7500', 45lbs. Camped somewhere and back out on 6/20.
From Chantry flats with Dino. Descended through clouds and the forest was incredibly green and lush. Very unexpected!
Finally bagged this one. The radiating afternoon heat made it quite hot... and the burn scar from last October's fire was plainly visible.
Yeah!! It was a good day
Peak 7 of 7 in the Mt Wilson area so I took the easy route from the parking lot to the tree next to the Cafe. Pretty cool area!
I've climbed this several times from the bottom and it's always a good hike!
I've been to the top of Mt. Wilson many times by car, and even looked through the 60 inch telescope on top, but I finally hiked to the summit, via the Mt. Wilson trail, on February 6, 2016. The trail was surprisingly lush after the first couple of miles, with lots of oak, pine, and ferns to keep the trail nice and shady. Near the top great views of Baldy and co. opened up to the East. It was well-worth doing and I'm glad I can check this one off the proper way -- hiking instead of driving.
Both drive ups on the way to other peaks: Yale, Hastings, Occidental and Newcomb.
With a group of three from Chantry Flats via the Gabrialino Trail to Sturtevant Falls and Camp Sturtevant, then Sturtevant Trail to Mt. Wilson, and down the Upper Winter Creek Trail to Chantry Flats. First Time.
Climbed with Sierra Club's WTC in 2012 as a 14 mile conditioning hike. Great fun, and a nice day hike!
Good way to kill time while the wife was shopping.
Drove the road from Red Box to summit area after checking off Occidental Peak. Dropped down on Mt. Wilson Toll Rd to Harvard, then reversed course. Hike back up at high noon was hot. Views of LA were good despite some haze.
Did a loop that included Mt. Wilson, Jones Peak, Hastings Peak.
good hike, day started warm and nice, but got foggy and cold near top.
14 miles Rountrip from Chantry Flats
This was not my first time up this route, but it was the first time with my children, Bob and Beth.
