These rocks may not look like a threat to your vehicle, but they have punctured many tires. Just take caution and drive slow, make sure you have a spare tire and the other tools needed to change your tire, just in case. There are many forest rangers who pass up and down this road, they are nice, but do not help with flat tires. I had to drive from Santa Fe to help someone who was stranded near the "Bear Trap 1" sign almost on top of the mountain, not too far from the fire lookout. Cell phone service can be received if you have a major service provider.
