Brother, it don't get better than this in Tucson
Broke trail after a big snowstorm and it was like I was in a snow globe. White gold everything. Until coming down and every trail turned into a little creek but I'll take it 10/10 times for that ascent.

best trail in southern Arizona
Three hours to the top from the parking lot. This is easily the best hike I have done in southern Arizona. It was a great trail and better than any of the four Ultras I have done nearby. Madera Canyon has a deserved reputation.

sunny and windy
From Madera Canyon via Super Trail to Josephine Saddle then Old Baldy Trail to Old Baldy saddle. Windy there. Then switchbacks to the summit. Lots of other hikers.

Almost got hand frostbite
I left at 3:00 AM to beat the crowds and to take advantage of hardpack snow from a recent storm. Some snow on the side of the trail starting at 6000', but then constant snow from 7000' (Josephine Saddle) and above. Boot tracks the entire way, and I just could walk in them. It was much colder than predicted or anticipated, and I made the mistake of not taking gloves, and my hands were the coldest that they had ever been. I did not waste any time on the mountain as a result, and I had trouble gripping my trekking poles. I had to get creative with methods of warming my hands. I was back down to the car by 9:30 AM, which was when other people were just starting to hike the trails.

By far the best hike and peak on my 8 day trip to Arizona. Hiked via the Old Baldy Trail and summited Mount Ian along the way. Beautiful day and all around awesome hike.

Great Hike via OBT
Fantastic hike up Old Baldy Trail. Began at 6:AM to little traffic and summited around 10:AM. Strenuous, with many switchbacks, but worth the effort for the views of Tucson and surrounding towns. Highly recommended.

It was a perfect weekend weather wise but Madera Canyon was packed with people picnicing so I had to park a mile further down; surprisingly few people on the trail. Great views!

Figure 8 hike
Hiked up the Super Trail down the Old Baldy Trail, forming a "figure 8" and enjoyed 360 degree views from the mountain. It was a sunny and calm day with ideal temperatures. I will return.

Old Baldy trail
Thanks to the people who put in a boot pack! The road was closed for construction a mile or so from the trailhead, but I biked through with no trouble. Nice views of Baboquivari and Madera alluvial fan from the summit. With the softening snow, the run down was epic! Trip report.

Old baldy trail
Good trail. Nice afternoon hike after driving up mt Lemmon in the morning. This peak was more interesting than the four ultras in southern arizona. This appears to be a very popular hike based on the number of register entries.

CLear skies and reasonable temps. 26.8 miles round trip from the first parking lot and back. Very impressive view. :)
