Yale 08'  Sucess!

Did this one with John Morehead! His 2nd and my 19th. Pretty good day overall. Alot of wind and no rain or snow. I would love a winter ascent of this one. We started at the Denny Creek trailhead and took our time and enjoyed the day and all the scenery.

AMS

Got to the saddle at 13,900' and couldnt hack the altitude any longer. Flew into CO springs at 5 pm the afternoon before, rented a car, drove straight to the mountain and began the climb around 4am. Sea level to 14k took its toll on this one!

Strange company  Sucess!

My hiking partner, against my strong warning, wore new sandals 'she just loved' for about the first mile... and blew my socks barefoot for the rest!

Long Winter Hike  Sucess!

Went up the standard route. Avy danger was avoidable, despite the recent heavy snows. Road was closed at Avalanche Gulch TH (which added 6 mi RT). Gorgeous weather which helped ease the unpleasantness of being on snowshoes for 14 mi....

Denny Creek  Sucess!

This was my fifth time climbing Yale. We went the now standard Denny Creek route. I have also climbed Yale via the east ridge from Avalanche Gulch trailhead.

Denny Gulch  Sucess!

This was my first climb of Yale. It was via Denny Gulch. This was the route featured in "A Climbing Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners" by Borneman & Lampert before it was closed for environmental concerns. The standard route became Denny CREEK a little to the west.

Southwest Slopes  Sucess!

Hiked the Southwest Slopes from Denny Creek Trailhead. Jogged most of the way back to the trailhead. Why? I was reading about the Mighty Mountain Mega Marathon and was trying to "get a good time." I've grown up since then.

Denny Creek Route  Sucess!

Went with a friend while there was still a bit of snow on top of Yale. Wanted to see how I could handle another 14er after Bierstadt-Sawtooth-Evans the day before. Felt pretty good, especially with the glissade/plunge-stepping for about 800-1000ft of elevation loss on the way down.

#17  Sucess!

Climbed with my Dad. One of the best maintained trails I've ever seen. It was a highway climbing up and down though, but still good views of the rest of the Sawatch.

Southwest Slope  Sucess!

Left the Denny Creek Trailhead near 3am, gained the summit ridge right at daybreak. Perfect timing, but brr! Should have dressed warmer! Pretty steep trail, really fun summit ridge, and great views.

Visiting the 14ers  Sucess!

We were in the area intending to climb Quandary Peak but the logistics didn't work out. Mount Yale looked accessible and doable...so we did. Is it less crowded not on a weekend?

Denny Creek  Sucess!

Good winter climb. Windy and cold above treeline. Awesome views from the summit.

Summit boulders scary  Sucess!

Left Denny creek TR at 6:15am. Lite snow covered switchbacks on trail to summit ridge. It is nice to be able to follow a more experienced climber who passes you! Right side of summit ridge gets my vote. Summit 11:35AM

Finishing the Job  Sucess!

Tried this mountain last year, but weather kicked us off. Not this time. Complete opposite weather compared to last year. Clear skies forever. We could see Pikes and Snowmass from up top. Im so pumped that we finally did it.
