Started really early (woke up at the campsite around 3:45 am) but it was well worth it. Saw the sunrise at 14,000!
Scrambled up the ridge from where the Colorado Trail passes by. A nice side trip, although my stashed thru-hike pack was chewed on by a marmot while we were heading up.
Nice climb on a cool September morning. Bluebird day with a chilly breeze at the top. Left TH at 6:40 and reached summit 10:05, lots of nice fellow hikers on the trail.
I made the mistake of going trail running two days before this hike. Ouch. The whole way down was torture. Nice peak, though.
Can't even remember the hike up there, only the summit.
A relatively easy Sawatch 14er with a pleasant few first miles through the trees followed by a steep grind up to the summit ridge. The ridge required more talus-hopping and scrambling than I had expected, which made it a ton of fun. Easily the best part of the hike.
Wife, dog and I via the East Ridge. Great climb and we saw no one else all day. Headed over to Mascot and then preceeded to have a miserable descent. Shoulda followed the east ridge of Mascot back to the trail rather than heading south!
With Ian and Jeremy; A more "airy" ridge than I expected, but still very enjoyable.
Chris, Marni and Turbo up the East Ridge from Avy Gulch trailhead. Camped at CT junction for the night and summited at 9:10am. Really fun route, just a little loose for the doggie.
Tried to get up by the east ridge, but a late start and slow-going got us caught up in a lightning storm.
Nice day, summited early enough to avoid the crowds.
Frosty on the west side of the ridge - be careful up there!
Standard route via Denny Creek.
easy hike, one of the few fourteeners accessed form a paved road. Duchess as usual ahead of me.
Bad weather up top
My first attempt at a 14er, back when I was 15. We tried to go up the old Denny Gulch route (before it was closed), but got turned back above timberline by ominous weather. Twenty years later, I still haven't been back, but I will eventually get this one!
My first mountain.
3/27/04-The first time was in light snow on a very cold, early spring day. We went straight up the wind scoured glade at treeline to avoid avy risk.
2/15/09-Had a nicer day nearly 5 years later via the same route. Traversed over to Mascot and descended s.e. ridge of Mascot, which is not recommended with a bunch of unconsolidated snow! See TR.
4/16/06 - Standard route from Denny Creek. Stomach deep postholing in wet spring snow made for very slow going. Made an out and back trip to "Mascot" from Yale before heading down.
2/15/09 - Winter ascent via Denny Creek TH, slight modification to standard summer route to avoid avy slopes. Traversed to "Mascot" and descended to the Avalanche Gulch TH (had a car shuttle set up).
