Scrambled up the ridge from where the Colorado Trail passes by. A nice side trip, although my stashed thru-hike pack was chewed on by a marmot while we were heading up.
Nice climb on a cool September morning. Bluebird day with a chilly breeze at the top. Left TH at 6:40 and reached summit 10:05, lots of nice fellow hikers on the trail.

Denny Creek
I made the mistake of going trail running two days before this hike. Ouch. The whole way down was torture. Nice peak, though.
Can't even remember the hike up there, only the summit.

Denny Creek
A relatively easy Sawatch 14er with a pleasant few first miles through the trees followed by a steep grind up to the summit ridge. The ridge required more talus-hopping and scrambling than I had expected, which made it a ton of fun. Easily the best part of the hike.

Yale
Wife, dog and I via the East Ridge. Great climb and we saw no one else all day. Headed over to Mascot and then preceeded to have a miserable descent. Shoulda followed the east ridge of Mascot back to the trail rather than heading south!
Chris, Marni and Turbo up the East Ridge from Avy Gulch trailhead. Camped at CT junction for the night and summited at 9:10am. Really fun route, just a little loose for the doggie.

east ridge unsuccessful!
Tried to get up by the east ridge, but a late start and slow-going got us caught up in a lightning storm.

First attempted 14er
My first attempt at a 14er, back when I was 15. We tried to go up the old Denny Gulch route (before it was closed), but got turned back above timberline by ominous weather. Twenty years later, I still haven't been back, but I will eventually get this one!

Fun HikeFun trip to take while on the Colorado Trail, nice to go all the way to the top instead of just over a saddle.

Early startStarted really early (woke up at the campsite around 3:45 am) but it was well worth it. Saw the sunrise at 14,000!
