A very informative page. Whymper's "Scrambles in the Alps" is a good history source. He says that Capt. Durrand and "Old Sémiond" made the first ascent of the Pic de la Pyramide in 1828. Perhaps the second chamois hunter was Pierre Sémiond, the guide whom Whymper sought out. Pierre being ill recommended his brother "Old Sémiond" to Whymper. Wymper suggests that the first ascent of the highest peak is that of the astronomer M. Puiseux in 1848.
