Overview

Rising from the western shoreline of Lake Willoughby, Mount Hor provides excellent views of the fjord-like lake, several small ponds, and it's partner mountain Mt. Pisgah. Carved by glaciers centuries ago, Mount Hor's greatest characteristic is it's sheer face plunging into Lake Willoughby (Vermont's deepest lake at 312'). The cliffs have been designated a National Natural Landmark. The cliffs are also known to be a spring nesting ground for Peregrine Falcons and provide a habitat for some endangered arctic and cliff-alpine plants.

Located in Willougby State Forest in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom Hor provides multiple outdoor opportunities including hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice climbing.

Two marked trails all lead to the summit of Mt. Hor, all of which should be considered walk-ups.

Getting There

Both of the trailheads leading to Mt. Hor are will marked with designated parking areas.

To reach the the Hawkes Trail (southern end of Lake Willoughby) from the south take VT 5A in West Burke and travel approximately 5.7 miles. From the north take Hill Rd southwest (right) from the junction of VT 16 and Hill Rd. Travel approximately 5.5 miles on Hill Rd, being sure not to take one of the roads entering from the side until you reach an intersection with Hall Valley Rd. Continue heading South until you come to a fork with two unpaved roads. Take the fork to the right for about 1.1 miles. Parking will be on the right hand side (east) of the road

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
