Blauspitze

Overview

The Blauspitze is a rockmountain in the Granatspitzgruppe. Its above the city of Kals am Grossglockner.Its not a very great mountain but there are some nice routes to the summit. You can start all the way down in Kals or take the cablecar to Restaurant Blauspitze. From there are some possiblities, you can find the by the routes. From the summit you have a great view over the Granatspitzgroup, Glocknergroup, Schrobbergroup and a part of the Venedigergroup.

This Mountain was first climbed in 1891.

Getting There

You get to Kals via the Felbertauern-Road:
- from north via Kitzbühel - Mittersill - Matrei (Matrei in Osttirol, n o t Matrei am Brenner!). There is a fee of € 10,00 for crossing the Felbertauern tunnel

From Huben a road leads to Kals.

You can get there very good by bus, From Kitzbuhel if you come by train , you change bus in Matrei.

When To Climb

The best time is the summer ofcourse but you can climb it when there is less snow on the mountain. With snow the marked routes are all covered so in that case you have to find your routes on your self. Ther are no glaciers so no danger for crevasses. Be aware that in winter and spring the paths are covered or partial covered with snow. This can be dangerous if you are not prepared for this.

Camping

Because you can climb this mountain from the town have dont have to use a hut. If you like you can use the Kals-Matreier-Törlhaus, from there its 2 hours to the blauspitze. If the cable car is in work you can do it all in one day.

Camping is not usefull is summer but in winter its good possible to find a campspot at the mountain. In Kals there are no campingplaces but a lot of hotels. The nearest camping is in Matrei fromwere you also can go to the blauspitze going up by the Goldried cablecar and go over the Kals-Matreier-Törlhaus.
