Overview

Piz Terri is a saliently rising rock summit in the Adula Alps, Graubünden. The ascent on the mountain is not difficult. After the alpine classification the key place is evaluated with 1+ . Particularly scenic is the environment: From the south you can ascend from a beautiful barrage (Lago di Luzzone), during in the north an acerb, nordic seeming elevated plain (Plaun la Greina) the mountain surrounds.

There are two ascents on the summit:

1. From South ( Motterascio - hut): Follow the blue - white marked footpath to the saddle (2720m) , then over the west ridge to the summit. Walking time from the hut: 2,5 - 3 hours.

2. From North (Terri - hut) : Take the direction to Diesrut pass until to a little bridge (catwalk). Turn right in direction Cap da Crusch. On the left follow a small valley (stone men) to its basin. Hold right and climb on green back . Then turn left to a glacier lake (look at photo). Take the left side of the lake (no path) and then cross right behind the lake on rests of the glacier (Glatscher dil Terri) on debris. Then ascent to the saddle and follow the west ridge to the summit. From the saddle the crossing of Piz Terri is possible in direction to Morterascio hut. Walking time from Terri hut: 4-5 hours.

Getting There

There are two huts, which you can use as starting points for an ascent and even a partial crossing of Piz Terri:
a) Camona da Terri, 2170 m. You reach the hut from north by bending to the right by car from the Rhine Valley (Chur) into the Surselva and driving up to the locality Sumvitg close Disentis. From there to the south by feet through the Val Sumvitg up to the valley conclusion. Walking time approximately 3.5 hours.
b) Motterascio hut , 2183m: Ascent from South from Campo Blenio. Campo Blenio is to be reached from the Gotthard - route: Milano - Lugano - Bellinzona - Biasca . In Biasca turn right into the Val Blenio (Lukmanierpass - route). After approximately 25 km you reach Campo Blenio. From there you can drive by car up to the barrage of the Lago di Luzzone and further on a small road to Garzott (also bus available). From there ascent to the hut in approx. 1.45 hours.

Red Tape

There are no summit fees to expect. The huts are open in summer from July to September , sometimes out of season also on weekends. In Switzerland you have to calculate always with parking fees at the starting points.
A few words to Plaun la Greina: This is a unique landscape with an outstanding beauty which is specially worth to be protected.

When To Climb

Summer is the best season, also because of the closures of the huts. Piz Terri is not suitable for an ascent in winter.

Camping

Because of the higly - protected zone of Plaun la Greina, Camping is not allowed. There are many camping places in Switzerland, wild camping is generally forbidden.
