Great page! My question is: has the west ridge route ever been documented? Has anyone done it?

Gordon,

Yes, the West Ridge of White Mountain Peak has been climbed a few times, however, there is very little printed information on this route. There is a link to Erik Siering's DPS (Sierra Club - Angeles Chapter - Desert Peaks Section) Trip Report under the Miscellaneous Info section that I just copied up to the 2nd paragraph so it's easier to find. 9,000 feet in elevation gain in 10 miles with formations called "The Little Slope of Horrors" and "The Ghastly Ridge" - sounds like an adventure! It would be nice if someone went with a GPS and digital camera ;-)

All the information I need to know for hiking up White Mountain. The page is my excellent guidebook for ascending the mountain in september when I go to the US for a holiday.

Thanks for the vote and checking out the links Vladimir! The USFS has a habit of changing their URL's every once in a while. I've updated a URL and removed some references to pages that don't seem to exist anymore. Let me know if you find any others.

Great page. I corrected my West Ridge trip report since you have it on the front page. I'll be doing this one this summer.

White Mtn flat tires

What is with all the flat tires on this smooth dirt road I see in all the pictures?

Re: White Mtn flat tires

I definitely wouldn't call it a smooth dirt road. It is, however, navigable by regular cars- I've been up there a few times, & no flat tires yet. If anything, letting some air out of ones tires before driving it would decrease the likelihood of getting a flat on the sharp rocks.
