Mountaineer's Route
The red line shows the route we took. This line stays high, near the East Buttress route of Whitney. The green line follows the Mountaineer's Route proper, down in the gully. This gully is often filled with snow and/or ice, and almost always loose rock and talus. Perhaps with good snow coverage it would make no difference, but without snow this route makes for much more enjoyable (and safe) climbing.
