Also known as Piz Timun (CNS - 3208.8m) this is the highest mountain of the eastern side of Valle Spluga and the main summit of the long (about 9 km) ridge starting from north of Passo Groppera and ending with meadows on the Val Ferrera (CH), the valley that divides this group from Piz Platta group. Not a fine looking mountain, but from Madesimo it looks like a piramyde and may invite to get it. From Val di Lei it belongs, without appeal, to the ridge where we can hardly distinguish the main summits, from south : Monte Mater (3023 m), Pizzo Sterla (2948 m), Pizzo d'Emet (3211 m) Guglie d'Altare (3178 m), Pizzo della Palù (3172 m) and some minor summits. |
Three different starting points for this summit (and for the other ones belonging to the ridge) : from Madesimo 1536 m (road from Campodolcino-Pianazzo) - lago d'Emet - Rifugio Bertacchi (2196m) through val Scalcoggia this starting point is useful for summer climbing along the west and NW sides of the mountain from Madesimo 1536 m (road from Campodolcino-Pianazzo) - cable car to Pizzo Groppera - Passo Groppera (2650 m) this starting point can be used for the ones that want to try to get tired on the eastern sides from Innerferrera (Calantgil) 1480 m (road from Sufers on the autoroute of S.Bernardino) this starting point is to be used only for ski-mountaneering |
as for all the summits of this area all seasons are good but avoid starting from Madesimo with snow : some avalanche danger on the slopes and the higher part of the path to Rifugio Bertacchi. |
do it yourself :)) a small tent if you don't want to make high drops in one day :) |
