This is the north ridge of Mt. Jefferson from above the HP of Marion County. I continued up the ridge as far as I could go. It wasn't really that far to the summit of Mt. Jefferson from here, but the rock fall was deadly. 4 October 2003

The summit isn't visible in this picture and is 1200' of gain from this location. Technically you are less than 1 mile from the summit at the CHP, but realistically you are still two difficult hrs away. The North Ridge is rarely (if ever) climbed to the summit of Jefferson and after the effort of just getting to the CHP it is pretty clear why.
