Mt Rainier Fox

Mt Rainier Fox

While driving to the Mt. Rainier Visitors' Center on May 3, 2009, this fox stayed quietly along the side of the road allowing me to get several shots. Though it doesn't fit the standard descriptions, I believe this is either a Red Fox or a mix which includes Red Fox. If you know one way or the other, please let me know. © Mike Hoyt, 3may09.

Nice ...

I spent many years exploring MRNP, and
had never came across a Red Fox.

I believe their "coloration" changes with the
seasons. It must still be wearing half of its
winter's coat.

Mike, is there still lots of snow at Paradise? ??

Re: Nice ...

Yeah, lots! The road to Paradise is still closed.

Re: Nice ...

Kidding? Still closed? Why aren't they out
there plowing the darn thing?

Well, that should give folks with snowshoes
something to do. Thanks, Mike ...

Great picture

Nice and well captured. This is a very unique photo of a Red Fox.

Re: Great picture

Thanks. I still can't get over how tame that fox acted...

Re: Great picture

Like the others, I find the coloration very interesting.

I rotated this one into the profile pic for the Canidae album, FYI.

"cross fox"

Not a separate species, just a coat color of red fox (c.f. "silver fox").
They look a lot like grey foxes. Easiest way to tell the difference is by the tip of the tail - red/cross/silver foxes have white at the tip of the tail, grey foxes have black.
