Very beautiful. Where did the photo come from?
I took this on the plane from Seattle going to Sacramento. The time was approximately 7:45 PM. We were flying very close to Rainier, had not yet reached full cruising altitude and the air was relatively clear. It shows some nice effects with shadows and clouds and the details are crisp. The cloud layer hugging the mountain also has a nice shadow that is a horizontal line across the mountain.
Again you have been holding out. Later Walt.
One of the best photos on SP for a long time. You can be lucky. You had the right plane at the right time, the right window seat and obviously a cleaned and unscraped window and a camera!
Thanks for posting.
I never really was interested in climbing Rainer but now I am thanks to your picture.
Very nice shot.
This is a wonderful image. I had the chance to climb Rainier 12 years ago but had to pass it up due to the passing of a good friend. I must put it on the to do list. Thanks for posting. Cheers William
I think this is worthy of a place on the Rainier web page as the signature photo! Nice picture!
awesome pic, question - was this photo taken at sunset, or sunrise?
Thanks. It was taken at sunset.
That cloud ring reminds me of Saturn's rings. Cool photo.
Kinda like the rings around Uranus! (Sorry....couldn't help myself)
No, those are much darker.
(well, you STARTED it!) ;- )
... colors and a good shot too !!!
I literally salivate at just the thought of flying that close to a huge mountain in perfect light. This shot kicks a**.
I'll be on this Mountain in September, this shot is like Rainier viagra, I guess I'll have to see the doc if Im up for 7 months.
derbilly... you just have good moments on mt rainier. bravo...excellent photos.
but never commented on it... positively love it... GREAT SHOT!
How did you keep the glare from the window out of the photo? Strong UV filter? Polarizer? I like the shadow the mountain makes on the area behind it.
Mt. Rainier is a truly majestic mountain. I never took it for granted while living in Seattle.
I've been trying to decide on a climb for this summer and this photo put Rainier into the "Definite" list.
