First Climb  Sucess!

2011 was my first time summitting. I've summitted 4 other times 3 times in 2012 and once (thus far in 2013). The 2013 summit was a memorable one as I backpacked and camp in the basin below the summit woke up early and arrived to the summit to watch the sunrise. I prefer to do this hike on a weekday later in the season when it's less crowded.

Mt Timp Trail Run  Sucess!

YES! I finally made it up after procrastinating for 2 years. I just had to force myself to make the drive. I ran up in 2:07 and stopped to sign the register, snap some pics, and ran back down. Really great trail and stunning views! Mt Timp is my 60th mtn/peak summit!

Many Memories on Timp  Sucess!

Timp's popularity is well-deserved (though irritating at times).

I've had days where, my group aside, there hasn't been another soul on the summit, and other days where it felt like a human highway/wildflower pickers' convention.

I'm hoping to pick some different lines next spring (Everest Ridge, maybe the Grunge, etc.)

While the Aspen Grove route takes the lion's share of water and flowers, I've experienced far more wildlife on the Timpooneke trail; coyotes, sage grouse, mule deer.

A Wasatch Great  Sucess!

Started around 11 am with Duc. The geological features of this mountain are amazing. The grand staircase makes for good hiking, beautiful areas to lounge in, and fantastic views. The mountain goats were a terrific sight.

We made it to the top in 3 hours and 40 minutes and back in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Unfortunately, Duc sprained his ankle in the last half-mile.

Great First Climb!  Sucess!

For some reason I had never climbed Timp. This year alone I had done Olympus, Big Baldy, Mahogany, Y Mountain, and Spanish Fork Peak, but I always considered Timp "too crowded" for the kind of hiking I like to do. However, the mountain truly lived up to its hype--it was spectacular!

Ten minutes in I saw a moose, and later in the hike I saw a red fox and around 20 mountain goats. The views are incredible, and the glissade down to the lake/pond was a highlight for sure. I'll definitely be going back.

Still all the snow   Sucess!

This was a dry year and we still encountered heaps of snow up in the high country! We did it the loop. Started around one in the morning and headed on up to catch the sunrise on Timp. Had the summit and trail to ourselves! Simply one of the best hikes out there. We came down the Aspen Grove side and maybe saw a total of 8 people. You hear about the crowds, but mid week earlier in the year was the way to go!

Timpanogos   Sucess!

6/12/2016 Started at Dry Canyon TH. Up and over Big Baldy and then Everest Ridge to the top. Awesome route. Descended into Timp Basin (great glissade) and out via the Timpooneke trail.
11/1/2015 From the Timpooneke trailhead along with Robert's Horn. Very cold and windy on the summit.
7/21/2013 Via the Timpooneke trail. I also climbed the South Summit and Bomber Peak.
Don't rembember the dates but I have climbed twice via Aspen Grove. Once in the summer of '95 and again sometime in '98.

N-S traverse  Sucess!

Up the Grunge couloir to North Timp, then south along the ridge. This would be a real slog if there weren't at least a sort-of trail most of the way. Trip report.

Timpanooke to Scout Falls  Sucess!

Did a partial Timp hike for training purposes. Rode bikes from road closure baracade in AF Canyon to Timpanooke Trailhead, then by 10am we hiked in warm weather up the trail. Hit a few small snow patches 10 ft. from trail head, but half mile up it was completely covered. We all had good boots and either ice axes or treking poles. Trail hard to spot at times so we went directly up two smaller cliff faces. Snow had a thin layer of ice that could easily be kicked through to get a safe foothold. Flat areas above the various cliffs were bare of snow. We turned around below cliffs at final trail to Timp Basin. Slid down most of the way when possible using poles and ice axes to self arrest before hitting trees and rocks at bottom. Fell through to small streams several times. Snow is melting fast. Post holing in most places was unavoidable; should have had snow shoes or climbed earlier in morning to make it easier. Will attempt to summit Timp in 3-4 weeks.

Timpanogos

This was the first peak I ever climbed back in high school, summer of 2000. I was not a hiker or a runner then so I am not sure what possessed me to do it. I went up with my cousin Hannah and uncle Maurice. It was hard and I really had to push myself. I remember being so impressed by the beauty and being so happy once I accomplished it. I am glad I believed I could do it even though it was so far outside my comfort zone.

Aspen Grove  Sucess!

Climbed today with my wife, and the Wasatch Mountain Club. The most goats I have ever seen. Lots of people today too. Shared the summit with about 15 others, while we watched more people ascending from the saddle. Summit was cold and windy, but not bad enough to prevent us from eating lunch and taking pictures. Great day on one of Utah's classic mountains! Go Utes!

First summit of Timp  Sucess!

Myself and a group of co-workers took to the summit today via Aspen Grove trail. We started at 7:00 am and it took us 4 hours and 30 minutes to reach the summit. We spent a little time on top then made it down the trail to the car in 3 hours 15 min for a total time of 7 hours 45 minutes.

We saw a young bull moose and a couple mountain goats. It was a perfect day to hike and we had a great time.
