Backup Plan - Harsh Storm - Aspen Grove  Sucess!

This was the 3rd peak of the week after bailing on our plan A of attempting Gannett Peak. We camped one night at Emerald Lake where we were hammered by a thunderstorm, happy the shelter was here (which we didn't know about until arriving). Hiked up the rest of the way the next morning. Hopped into Emerald Lake on the way down.

Family Reunion Rite of Passage  Sucess!

For my father-in-law, who grew up in the Orem area, climbing Timp was almost routine, so he wanted all of his children to have the experience. We camped at the Theater in the Pines campsite during a family reunion held, in part, to give his youngest son the chance to climb. I hiked via the Aspen Grove Trail with five of my kids and two brothers-in-law. Two of my kids decided that getting to Emerald Lake was good enough, but the rest of us continued on to reach the summit. We hiked down to the glacier and glissaded as much as we could on the way back. This was the most scenic climb I've ever done. Beautiful mountain to experience with my kids.

Solo spring ascent  Sucess!

Amazing solo ascent with no one else on the mountain despite a beautiful weather weekend. Camped at 10,100 feet in the basin below the north face after a late start Saturday. Snowshoes were great to have. Climbed to the summit next morning under cold but clear skies. Big cornices made reaching the saddle a bit spicy.

Timp Ridge Traverse  Sucess!

https://youtu.be/iGfVdysEyzI Check out our video on you tube at peaks in the bag for a full trip report for the whole timp traverse, north timp to south timp. This peak really is not that difficult. And other than Bomber peak, this is the easiest summit along the timp ridge as well as the highest and most crowded.

Everest Ridge  Sucess!

Great day with Sam & Greg. Cloudy and little wind. Started climbing Big Baldy and bushwhacking to the route. We opted for the cliffs at the crux (snow was too hard). Great day out- thanks guys!

Another one  Sucess!

Left the trailhead at 5:30 am, it got real cold near the cabin but warmed up a ton later in the day. Gashed up my shin on the way back, looked a lot worse than it was

Second try  Sucess!

Got turned back by huge amounts of snow in early July (couldn't even find the trail after 3 miles). Made it just in time, as there was already a few inches of new snow in early September.

One of the Best Around  Sucess!

Probably my favorite mountain to hike around Provo. Amazing views from the top. Headed up with a group of experienced runners who really pushed the pace to the top. Started around 4am and made it to the top with a quick push. Fun scrambling at the top. Bombed down in great time, but one member of our party took a little tumble and got pretty cut up. Ended up having to get stitches. All in all — wonderful hike and definitely worth it.

Aspen Grove

Left at about 3 PM, hoping to make the summit for sunset. We encountered more snow than expected, and this slowed us down significantly. A little snow and ice 3 miles in and 6-8" of snow 4 miles in. We made it up to the ridge at about 7:30 and caught the tail end of sunset, still excellent views. Turned around and hiked down in the dark.

2nd Utah Peak  Sucess!

Glad we started early (5 am) only the last bit coming down the heat got to us. Still very cold on the west side of the ridge though. Glad to have brought a sweater, wishing I had a hat and gloves.
