Mule deer are a common sight around the Pinyon Flat Campground at Great Sand Dunes National Park, CO. This one was actually about 15 feet from my tent and was content to let me retrieve my camera out of the truck for this early morning shot. However, before I could change the lense on the camera, she saw a dog at the campsite adjacent to mine and quickly ran away (the dog never saw her, BTW). High Dune is in the distance, top center of the image. Imaged in August 2006.

Thanks again, OlympicMtnBoy! The deer were pretty common, and I wanted an image with the dunes in the background. But every time I tried to juxtapose myself, they'd run away. This one was pretty tame--until it saw the dog. But, I got an image anyway. --mark d.
