East Face
Took a chute somewhere along the east face above Lake 11911. Was able to do the entire route without taking any snow gear thanks to a tip from Deb. Nice climb to the summit, then down via Alpine Col with a sidetrip to Goethe before the long route out. Amazing how little snow was out there... far less than I encountered in the same area two years ago but 6 weeks later in the year.

Took the first chute from lowest Lost lake; trying to avoid snow and sand kept it Class 3 most of the way. Suspect blocks in chute made an interesting descent. Outstanding views and solitude...until I returned to Piute Pass and about 30 freakin backpackers!

Second time to the peak, this time with Tom Becht as part of the 2009 Sierra Challenge. Thought it might be faster from Goethe to climb over Muriel on the way back to Piute Pass rather than descending Alpine Col, but it took much longer. Lesson learned. Trip Report

Triumphant Return!
Well...not really. More like sneaking back in through the kitchen window. This was my first serious hike/scramble after breaking my left elbow (head of humerus sheared off) in March. Felt great to be back in the mountains, but being so out of shape really sucked! Thanks, Sean, for putting up with my 'gravitational impairment!'

On the way to Mt Goethe
On the way to NE Ridge of Mt Goethe, Samantha and I cramponed up to the Keyhole from Muriel Lake, climbed up SE ridge of Muriel Peak, then traversed to Alpine Col to climb the NE Ridge of Goethe. We descended from Alpine Col down to Goethe Lake and followed its west side back to Muriel Lake.

Day 3, 2007 Sierra Challenge. Climbed straight to the summit from Lost Lakes via class 2/3 chute and ledges with Eric and Bill. Descended to Alpine Col and went on to Goethe via NE Ridge. Made a loop via Darwin Canyon and Mt. Lamarck with Eric. <11h car to car.
