Fall Fog  Sucess!

Totally socked in, but no actual precipitation--still had good traction on the rocks. Temperature around 40, but I still took off my windbreaker before reaching the top. Ran up and down from the Cutler TH. Not the fastest ever, but OK. Plenty of solitude; interesting conditions.

Fall sunshine  Sucess!

Did the Cheyenne Canon twofer--Mt. Cutler via the east face, then on to Muscoco. Beautiful afternoon. As usual, had Muscoco all to myself. A round trip of 2 hrs., 11 minutes from home.

from Cutler trailhead  Sucess!

Great Independence day hike. As busy as Cheyene Canyon was, once I got off the Cutler trail I only saw one other person.

From Mount Cutler Trailhead  Sucess!

One hour from trailhead and certainly wasn't pushing it. Great Views from summit. Lightening strikes on Almagre, so two minutes on summit was probably too long. I saw no one once I stepped off the Cutler trail.

no snow!  Sucess!

With rain/snow forecast for the next day, I decided to climb Muscoco from the standard Mt. Cutler trail trailhead. I took along Molly the red German Shepard mix. To my surprise, there was virtually no snow, even though the trail is on the north-facing slope! 39 minutes up, 25 minutes down, on a beautiful, sunny day. I never thought to pack the camera, though, so there are no pictures.

Route Climbed: east ridge trail Date Climbed: 3 October, 2005  Sucess!

A nice run/climb on a warm fall day. 1 hr., 5 min. round trip from the saddle on the Mt. Cutler trail. Not much view to the east from the actual summit, due to trees. but great views to the west. Good trail all the way, lots of solitude. I'll do it again!

Route Climbed: Cutler trail Date Climbed: 4/19/05  Sucess!

Excellent hike that can be done after work if you are looking for something short but rewarding. My friend Pat and I took the Cutler trail to the saddle, then a right turn and the grunt began. Made the summit in 37 minutes as it is on our local El Paso county named summit list. It isn't named on the USGS, but it is on Ormes Pikes Peak Atlas. Awesome views for such a short hike with some pretty big cliffs on the south side of the summit. Look for the Seven Falls observation deck and listen for the waterfalls. Returned via Daniels Pass, then back down to the road. That saves a few minutes because it is not as steep. Turn right on Cheyenne Canyon rd for about 1/4 mile back to the trailhead.

Great climb. Had the mountain all to myself on a Wednesday morning. Spent 2 hours on the sunny summit soaking in the rays and the views.
