Right, but one thing that puzzles me is why you Americans tend to neglect Canada, BC is so close to Washington/Oregon...

You are completely right. Just got back from Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park in BC. Amazing. Also want to visit Lake of the Hanging Glacier/Jumbo Pass area, Pacific Rim area, Strathcona Provincial Park... The list goes on and on.
