Not far from the trailhead is a set of buildings, one or two of which are part of the ranger station at Nixon creek. This sign gives you that "forest service" feeling and also provides the news that to get to Fredonia, you have 60 miles to go.

In the fall of 1974 I worked for BLM on the Strip and the BLM had recently taken this tract over from the USFS. I stayed at the facility a few times. One of my projects at the time, further north on the Strip, was to mark the Honeymoon Trail with posts.
