Near yet so far

My son and I called it quits at this spot as the weather was changing rapidly. We elected to descend and save the peak for another day as we didn't want to be caught high on this peak in an electrical storm. It turned out to be the right choice as rain started falling soon after we turned around. One thing that this picture shows however, is an antenna set up and a block house of some sort on another peaklet. I'm sure you can't see Black Crook Peak from where we were but our GPS said we were less than a half mile away and lacked a couple hundred feet of elevation. I shall return to do this one again but from a better direction. 7-16-07

Black Crook Peak

Hey Dean,

Black Crook Peaks summit is the furthest left point seen in this picture, the ridge extending up to the right is the last false summit. Ascending the false summit from here shouldn't be any harder than easy class 3, and the last few hundred feet from the base of the summit isn't harder than easy class 3 as well. From here the summit should be a little more than half a mile directly away. Hope this helps.

Greg
