Nelson took his pack off to...

Nelson took his pack off to maneuver out closer to the ridge proper (July 31, 2004). Our hope was that he would be able to find a way down. No dice. After this we were able to downclimb the ledge system on the south face of the ridge for another 50 feet to this point, but could go no farther.

beautiful

What's the name of the lake? I had planning on heading to the Mummies in September, and now I'm *really* looking forward to it.

Re: beautiful

Ryan, that's one of the Spectacle Lakes. There are a pair of them, and they can look like eyeglass spectacles from above, or they can be in a spectacular location. The route to Donner Ridge does not go there, as Andy and I learned, but I have been there a couple of other times, once on an aborted attempt on the Y Couloir. It is a dramatic place, and takes some worthwhile effort to reach.

Re: beautiful

What is your plan for the Mummies? With your reputation for incredibly long days you should definitely consider doing Mummy Mania. It would probably be a walk in the park for you and you could hit Rowe Mountain and Rowe Peak just to add a bit of challenge. Their are no SP pages for Hagues Peak and Mummy Mountain.

Awesome Photo

This is one of the great pictures from RMNP on Summit Post. I'll never get to this point so I really appreciate having the opportunity to see what it is like.
