Pretty steep  Sucess!

Saturday, partly cloudy, saw no other hikers on the way up, but saw 8 in 4 groups on the way down. Caught a good view of Mt. St. Helens from the North side of the peak.

Steep, snowy, icy  Sucess!

Great training hike. The middle section is tricky during icy conditions... I brought my MICROspikes and they were quite helpful, especially during the descent. Very nice view west toward Portland and north to Silver Star, but unfortunately the views east are now overgrown.

3rd time this year  Sucess!

Warm and humid. The beargrass was blooming on the ridge. Lot of devils club and other bushes infringing on the trail- I like this hike better in April and May before all the shrubbery leafs out.

Nesmith Point Trail  Sucess!

Trail was icy at 2000 feet, and there was a fair amount of snow above 2500'. Very nice views facing west and north to Silver Star Mountain.

Fun Trail  Sucess!

I like this one in the early spring when there is still a good amount of snow, and less people.

Main Route  Sucess!

First training hike for the fall for myself and my pup. Knees are sore! The tilted outhouse is down.

Nesmith Point Trail and Rock of Ages  Sucess!

I like the Rock of Ages approach a lot better. The best views in this area are found just before you reach Nesmith Point Trail from this direction.

4/28/2007, Main Route  Sucess!

Early morning clouds which burned off around 11:00. Large temperature gradient from parking lot to summit, small patches of snow still remained across the upper part of the trail. Group of 4 started around 9:20 and reached the summit in 3 hours. The trail seemed to be in good condition, lots of small rocks exposed on the trail, plenty of broken branches strewn across the upper part of the trail.

First Hike in a While

Decided at the last minute to go out for the morning. I forgot my gaiters at home so I only made it half way before I was turned around by snow. Saw some deer tracks and saw two other groups on the way down.

Route Climbed: Main Trail  Sucess!

I've done this one twice... July '02 and Nov '05. In the 80's and hot the first time, and cold and snowy the second time. Nice hike... will do again, probably via the old Nesmith/Elowah Ridge route that starts at Upper McCord Creek Falls.

Route Climbed: Trail 428 from Yeon trailhead (main route) Date Climbed: 4-21-06  Sucess!

Good climb for a couple of hours worth of exercise. I can see why people use this trail for training. Managed to get some good views from the summit, but had to hike through snow for the last mile and a half of the trail.

Nesmith Point Trail

April 2003. I have no idea what took me so long to finally do this one, but after living in the Portland/Vancouver area since 1977 and hiking the Gorge trails from the get go, I finally did Nesmith Point in 2003. Great views, and a very nice early season fitness hike.

Route Climbed: Main from Yeon Park Date: About 1989 or 90  Sucess!

For the amount of effort required I'd prefer a gorge hike with more views, but if conditioning is what you're after this fits the bill. I made it to the top, all I remember is a very long steep climb, I'll have to try it again just for the fun of it? Maybe not.

Beautiful Sunny Day, learned my knees are not as good as I had thought. A nice hike.

First time was, I think, was the spring of '02. Snow from about 3200'. Winter blowdown everywhere. No trail but was able to navigate with GPS. No views...only fog.

Next summit no views...only fog. Met the man that I would climb Mt. Hood with two weeks later. He uses this as his training route.

Havn't been back since....

4/21/02- Hiked up in snow to do some training. Ran into a Mazama group (imagine THAT happening in the Gorge?!?!) at the lookout point although there were no views that day.

5/2005-Ran up this in the morning to get a workout in before my girlfriend and her daughter woke up. Trail getting overgrown with bushes and shrubs already.

5/6/2007-Got up this one to the plateau and then searched in vain for a secret marker someone told me about. Never did find it. Great wildflowers at this time of year and the trail is not yet overgrown, but will be soon.

Sometime around 2010 with Karl and Luna to the mystery cabin.

3/30/14 Solo but ran into Karl and others coincidentally. Absolutely no snow up there, weird this time of year for there not to be still.

Perfectly clear day, although the photos look like there out of the 80's. Although this climb is not as popluar as Table, Dog or Defiance Mountian, I hope that people will enjoy it just as much.
