Hiked this from Porcupine Creek back in 2002, and at the time I was inexperienced and in terrible hiking shape and thought it was a hard hike. I've made a lot of changes since then and now think this hike would be a piece of cake. Need to go back again to conquer this 'difficult' hike, and bring some photography gear while I'm at it. Excellent views from the top!
Hiked up Snow Creek and then down Yosemite Falls trail after enjoying North Dome. There was a good amount of snow along the top. Enjoyed watching the rare treat of a bobcat stalking a squirrel near Yosemite Point Buttress.
Fresh snow and COLD but melted off by afternoon. Looped from Mirror Lake to Yosemite Lodge via the north rim and Yosemite Falls. Also climbed Indian Rock and Basket Dome.
I took the trail from Porcupine Creek. It's not so bad getting to North Dome, but knowing that you got to go back uphill, kinda sucks. It actually wasn't that bad going back. This would be a better hike to do later in the day, as the sun wouldn't be behind or over Half Dome. The view of Half Dome and Cloud's Rest is super!
A fun hike. Great views of Half Dome, and we got to climb Indian Rock.
Enjoyed the hike to the top of North Dome on a gorgeous summer Sierra day. Astonishing views of Half-Dome, Basket Dome, west down the Valley. The side trip to Indian Rock is well worth the effort too. The hardest part of this is hiking back to the Tioga Road, as there's a lot more uphill. Now one of my favorite hikes in Yosemite.
High winds and light rain hit us around pitch 7, just as my partner was starting the second crux (haha). He had a memorable experience. It really seemed as if a T-storm was brewing. We finished the route as fast as we could, then the sun re-emerged.
As we were hiking out on the Yosemite Falls trail, the weather worsened once again. We ended up getting pretty damp. The thunder claps made us thankful we were off the dome.
Backpacked up the Snow Creek Trail and camped out on the North Rim. Great place for a nice campfire. Reached the summit on the second day but had slow going due to the late season snow fields. Camped out near Yosemite Point the second night. Great sunrise! Hiked down the Yosemite Falles trail the next day.
It was an awesome day hike with my girlfriend unfortunately we just got to eat lunch before a storm blew in and chased us of the summit. So we high tailed it out and went and met up with the fam for some chill time at lake tenya. Awesome trip and good memories
Lugged skis up from valley floor in Spring and found good coverage up top. Ran out of time to hit summit and had to turn back.
out of Tenaya Canyon. THE VIEW of Half Dome. Then over to Yos. Falls and down.
CLEAR VIEWS OF HALFDOME- GOOD SPOT TO READ A BOOK. DID YHE EASY PORCIPINE CREEK TRAIL. HIT UP INDIAN ROCK ON THE WAY BACK
Got laid on the summit (:
We took a short side trip up North Dome during our 8 day hike through the Yosemite back country. One of my most memorable trips!
Solo day hike from the valley via Yosemite Falls Trail. Beautiful views! Great exercise! Want to do the South Face route next time.
Via Porcupine Creek Trail, a really nice hike and great views of half dome.
Day hiked from Tioga rd. Great new view of the valley and Tenya canyon. Best of all... no crowds.
Camped out on top of North Dome the night before. Superb views, superb climb.
Holy laybacking! Definitely the theme of this climb. MichaelJ and I climbed the route from the Porcupine Creek trail head, starting at 7:30AM. The hike to the dome was easy, but we spent a lot of time thrashing around in the bushes after going cross country, trying to find the start of the climb. We started on the route at 11:00AM and topped out at 3:40PM. There were some annoying bushes to thrash past on the route and a ton of laybacking. We did it in 6 pitches and I led pitches 2,4,6 (basically pitches 3,5,7,8 in Supertopo). Overall a good climb, but maybe not worth the effort of the approach.
