Newly Easy  Sucess!

There is now a bike trail under construction that goes right by the summit area. The outing would have been a short but frustrating bushwhack without it. Around the summit area, the rock formations were actually pretty interesting and fun to wander through, so the true summit isn't a total dud.

North lookout  Sucess!

This would be disappointing without the lookout.

XC Ski  Sucess!

Tried to make this one interesting with a XC ski tour. The light snowpack this year let us drive up to about 2700 feet. The road has a good grade for XC skis.
We enjoyed beautiful weather and views. The lookout is still there and downright dilapidated.

North Mountain  Sucess!

A quick drive-up to visit the scary old lookout tower.

Gate Open  Sucess!

Bryan and I heard that the Lookout is doomed so we drove up to take a last look. We hopped over the fence and climbed the stairs to the top. Afterward we bushwhacked around trying to find the high point without map or GPS. I doubt we made it to the true summit before it became too dark to continue looking.

UPDATE: I came back for the true summit August 6th, 2013. Do not try this without a GPS!

Brush Bash  Sucess!

After visiting the fire lookout, it was a brush bash to the high point with Dean. We got dirty and wet.

Bushwhack  Sucess!

Hiked up to the lookout and then did the cross country effort through the brush via the very overgrown old logging road. It was actually swampy in a few places then made our way up to the summit area. I was with Dennis Poulin.

Route Option 3  Sucess!

The southside road is clear from the junction by the gate to the ridge at 3500 ft. Beyond that it is overgrown with slide alder and salmonberry. The brush is thick but probably not too bad on a drier day. Someone has flagged this route with pink ribbon. WA P2k 51/144
Only patches of snow left in the woods.

Cool tower  Sucess!

I hope they don't tear down the tower! The true summit is an interesting conglomeration of rocks, but it's kind of a pain to get to!

Views!!!  Sucess!

The vantage point and views are outstanding. Did this one after work on a beautiful Friday. Worth sticking around for the sunset. There was about 3ft of snow on the road just past the gate.

North Mtn  Sucess!

In 2004 I drove to the lookout, back when the gate might still be open and when I was more interested in lookout bagging. By 2007 I'd primarily switched to prominence bagging and so we walked the now gated road and then schwacked to the true summit which was a bit of an adventure as we had no map. But we made it.

Much Better Than Expected!  Sucess!

I wanted to visit a fire lookout. I also wanted to summit one of Washington's 2kP peaks. This mountain accomplished both goals. The views were outstanding, some of the most wide-ranging in the area. Not bad, for a peak with modest elevation.
