North Ridge

North Ridge

Leading the low 5th class (but very cool nevertheless) slab on pitch 8 of North Ridge. Pitch numbering is per Nelson and Potterfield guidebook; this is about 3 pitches below The Great Gendarme (July 30, 2005).

Almost the same photo as the cover of Climbing mag

from September! Just more fog on Climbing's cover, & the climber is climbing & not posing. Knew I recognized that pic! Nice shot.

Re: Almost the same photo as the cover of Climbing mag

Thanks Dirk!!

Appreciate the flattering comparison :)

Yeah, posing is my specialty given my background in adult film industry ;)

BTW, saw your plans for Labor Day weekend. Have a great time!! As for whether to go for another volcano after your marathon or Monkey Face, I'd highly recommend the latter (not to mention, you guys might be sick of going up volcanos at that time :)

You can "extend" the standard Pioneer Route ascent (if that's what you were thinking of doing??) by starting on the west side via an awsome 2 or 3 pitch (depending on the variation to the variation :) West Side Variation (either route # 13 or 13 a from the SMith guidebook). You'd be skipping the only forgettable pitch (1st one) on the Pioneer route. Think you'd find the climb unforgettable (not to mention the ~150 foot free air rappel)!!

Are you guys going to be around Oregon after Monday? If you're in PDX during the week, let us know maybe we could go grab some local brew?

Take care and have fun!

Hey Radek,

does Shirley know about your illustrious background? :)

Think Mark & I will try the Monkey Face tomorrow (wow!), then do some volcanoes the next 2 days. Thanks for the recommendations!

Unfortunately we'll probably be driving back on Monday. Will make sure to let you know when I'm up around PDX again, though.
