Northern Couloirs of Thunderbolt Pk

September 5, 2009 - The NE Couloir (left) and N Couloir (right) of Thunderbolt Peak. Notice how the N Couloir had avalanched earlier in the summer, leaving the lower half scoured down to pure alpine ice. This made for interesting climbing! The high point in the picture is the sub-summit of Thunderbolt Peak, called the Lightning Bolt. As you can see here, for the N Couloir, take the first left fork, then the first smaller right fork to top out to the right of the Lightning Bolt.
