Nuptse in moonlight from Everest Base Camp

I was watching the moon waxing during the first half of May from Everest Base Camp. May 15, 2008 was a clear night allowing the moon to light up Nuptse (7861 M, 25,790') on the right for a nice view from EBC at approximately 9 PM.

the sky appears to be very dark blue at high altitudes. awesome shot

Yes in the photo the sky appears dark blue. Part of the reason for that is the long exposure with a digital camera. It seems to lighten the sky the longer the exposure it. This shot was taken on a tri pod using a device to allow for longer exposures.
