Successful hike
Being out of shape and from Indiana is not the ideal starting point for this hike, but I was successful. Struggled with the altitude, but never got headaches or anything. Really pretty hike and loved the views at the top!

Sunset Hike
Hazy day from a nearby fire. Arrived at the summit just in time for sunset with no one else around.

Road Trip Weekend
Mega road trip from Socal. Went to Meteor Crater, then hiked up Humphrey's Peak (super windy!), drove to and did a quick stop at the Grand Canyon, then back. Too much driving!

Fun
Hiked up from SnowBowl. Really neat aspen forest. Ran into another hiker from my hometown in IL. Ended up chatting about restaurants there and people we knew. Very small world. Great views of the north rim of the Grand Canyon up top. Flagstaff is a cool place too.

Great hike
Was on my wish list for many years. My wife and I drove up from SoCal and spent a few nights in Flagstaff. Humphreys was the main event. Got lucky with no afternoon monsoon. Lots of people and dogs on the trail.

Must do in Flagstaff
I could have sworn I signed this log back when I did the hike, but apparently not. Need to have it noted, because this is one of my highpoints! Highest peak in Arizona :)
No snow this time of year; hiked it in my trail running shoes. Was wearing shorts and tank.
I also hiked to the WWII bomber crash site in 2022.

Afternoon Ascent
Road up didn't open until noon due to a charity race. Made for a great sunset but a dark descent. Excellent day

Make Smart Choices
As we headed up the ranger told us make smart choices. Winds predicted at 45-50 mph. Most people coming down said too windy. We brought goggles and wind gear because we checked the weather report. Not flip flops and tanks. Last bump to ridge gusts were 70-80. Bear crawled it, but because of rock holds felt safe.

Wife and I came in from Florida, immediately went to Humphrey's. O2 saturation at the trail head was in the high 80s, but up top wife was at 69%...

Hurricane on the summit!
Skid the peak with Josh Lewis. At the summit winds were at least 70 MPH. The ski down was super fun.

I'm old. Highpoint #6
About 2 miles before the summit, my body hit a wall and did not want to go any further. I slowly dragged myself to the summit, but it physically about killed me, or so it felt. Beautiful on top.

A Summit of Doko'o'osliid (Navajo)/Aaloosaktukwi (Hopi)
Started at 5:00 am and quickly found ourselves in the clouds. Luckily, the clouds abated once we reached the ridgeline. This trail is very gradual, but feels very long. The summit views were awesome as clouds were below us to the west and fairly clear views to the north and east. Back to the TH before 11:00 am. State high point #9.
Clouds billowing up from the east blocked the view to the north and east. Hiked up from the Snowbowl parking lot. Wanted to do the loop by returning via Weatherford and Kachina, but my feet weren't having any of it. Blisters on all toes and my heel; time for new boots!
