Start of a long day
Figured I would try and summit before 10 and if I did I would make the trek to Columbia. Great day to do it, only briefly needed more than two layers. That traverse to Columbia though, bleh

3rd Highest Mountain in CO on a Busy 9/11 Saturday - Got the Descent Under an Hour (Record!?)
https://www.strava.com/activities/5944871356
Remember 9/11…USA. Lots of people on Mt. Harvard today! Quite hot as well as I was out there 11am to 3pm. Had to go #2 three times on the way up. As I was nearing the top, I felt like it looked like the descent could possibly be done under an hour (if I didn't have to dump again!), so I decided to give it a shot. Took it fairly conservative the first mile or so down, and then tried to ratchet it up. I felt I should've been able to get the 3rd and 2nd to last miles under 7, but I wasn't feeling it. Bonked a bit the last mile or so.
First time wearing Olympus on a fast effort (not totally planned) and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Saw multiple people on the drive waving American flags along the highways...super cool.

Harvard from Horn Fork
Nice day hike from North Cottonwood trailhead. I started at 4:30 and was on the summit by 8. Left the summit 20 minutes later and was in Beuna Vista in time for lunch.

one of the most scenic hikes I've experienced: Horn Fork Basin is quite spectacular. We took the side detour to Bear Lake - one of the most beautiful lakes.

Lots of snow left on the route, which made for a long outing. Had to post-hole in Horn Fork basin. The slope up to the ridge was covered in hard snow so we used spikes and poles to ascend. Hiked up the ridge to the summit area and scrambled the summit block. Perfect weather day!

Harvard and Columbia
Started our drive around 1am and began the hike around 4:30. Had 3 friends (Braden, Ben, and Andrea) join me, and we cruised to the top of Harvard. Seeing a lot of snow on the traverse to Columbia, we decided to descend all the way back down to the junction and reascend Columbia. Lots of wind on Columbia Ridgeline, but no bad weather and just a beautiful day. Long way down and a long day overall, but well worth the effort.
Set off from the TH at 4:30 am with my wife and friends Jesse and Braden. The goal was to do the Harvard/Columbia traverse. We summitted Harvard around 8:20 and relaxed for twentyish minutes. We decided to forgo the traverse as it looked pretty icy. Instead, we descended back into Horn Fork Basin and followed the new trail up to Columbia. What a slog. Weather was nearly perfect and we summitted Columbia shortly after noon. Back down to the TH by 3:20 pm. 14er #26

#45 Columbia + Harvard
Loved the views of that whole backcountry area including towards Missouri Gulch. The summit tower was impressive. The trail down was a real joy–the trail builders really outdid themselves on this one. Then quickly drove up to Mount of the Holy Cross for a sunset hike.

Columbia Traverse
Started around 4:30AM. Conditions excellent up to Harvard summit. Traverse was very long as expected. 4 or 5 small snowfields along the traverse. Thunderstorms started rolling in at 11AM. Spent minimal time at Columbia summit. Light rain all the way back to trailhead. Was back around 2:40PM.

Did the approach from Frenchmen Creek TH and I will never do that again. Better to come from the Columbia side or do a traverse. Still glad to get this peak though.
