Beautiful relaxing day from yesterday's climb of Shasta Sargent ridge.
Easy hike from the highway
Some patches of snow across the trail, but overall easy ascent
5 mile round trip 90 minutes up and 60 minutes back down. Some amazing views of the lake next to Susanville CA, and looks like a lot of rock climbing available. Easy class 2 hike, good for young and old!
Straightforward hike up, perfect corn all the way to the car.
Absolutely beautiful climb
Not too steep, great morning hike with a view. Last 150' to the top was slushy and the rock and gravel were loose.
The grade was fantastic and trail was smooth. Good job Lassen!
1 hour 15 mins up, then I circumnavigated both craters, saw a weasel, and walked/glissaded down. 3.5 hours car to car.
1x - family hike in the 70's
2x - Hiked up with Maria in early 2000
3x - Hiked up with Rebecca - I recall seeing millions of butterflies everywhere
Winter condition from lot.
This was my first Cascade and along with Mt. Shasta my favorite. I’ve done dozens of Winter climbs of this peak from the SW entrance station. This is the only mountain on which I broke a bone (in Feb 2014) but I could not love it more. An easy and fairly safe winter climb without the crowds.
My dad drove us to Lassen National Park when I was about 13. In addition to enjoying the volcanic activity at Bumpass Hell we hiked up the trail to the summit of Mt. Lassen. At that age it seemed to take forever, but I was awestruck by the park.
About 14 years later (during the summer of 1972) I hiked up the trail again with my wife, Deborah Kimbrell.
Second of 3 peaks for the day. Also hiked up Brokeoff Mountain and Mt. Eddy.
Went straight up from the road where it turns towards Reading Peak, and went up the Southeast face to the right of the trail. Easy, short climb that was lots of fun with a little 40 degrees towards the top.
Very nice hike to the top. Was way more crowded than I expected it to be in the early AM. Topped off my view from the top by proposing to my girlfriend at the summit! Great day!
Perfect early a.m. weather for a quick summer hike. Fun to explore the top and see the geological formations with my son.
Lovely hike, but busy and several unprepared people. Hot day. Bring extra water for those who are unprepared.
Was there snow? Where did it start?
