Only in the area for a day so took the gondola up and poked around on the summit with some crystal views, then headed off for some scrambling on Deadman Creek dome and took a meander up Convict Canyon before the wind made walking near impossible. Good times!
Dragons back ridge
Also: 8/30/17 w/Bo and Barb
The trails were closed, so we headed up from the gondola first following ski runs, then bushwhacked up higher on. Great views .
After hiking Bodie and Potato earlier in the day, arrived in Mammoth around 5 PM. Since it was too early to head to the motel for the night I hiked Mammoth, going up the Dragon's Back Trail. Very cold and windy on top, saw no other hikers on the entire trail, descended by headlamp.
Ok, I probably shouldn't sign this log since I rode the tram up to the top, but I did have to climb another 15 feet to the top in snow and ice and wind to get to the true summit!
Got to the top of this mountain the only reasonable way - on foot. Gondolas are for babies.
Took the gondola up with the family (2 and 1 yr. old kids). They made it part way up White Mtn. the day before.
Hiked up Dragon's Back, starting from our cabin at Twin Lakes. Excellent views most of the day. It took about 4 hours round trip.
Been up this a few times
hiked up dragons back from the back lake. nice hike, great views. didn't see anyone else on the trail.
Can't really brag about this one. Cold and very windy.
but was told by the mountain that they dont allow that sort of stuff... whatever.
skiied it most of my early life...
Climbed on the way down to Whitney
Certainly a strange mountain experience. Ski lifts crossing the mountain, mountain bikers zipping all over... But the views of the Minnaretts and other peaks are just amazing. Neat, quick jaunt. Summit is nice for lunch.
Easiest peak I've ever climbed with skis -- or without.
Rode the Gondola up, and the powder down.
Huffed and puffed from the top of the ski lift to the actual summit marker. What a rush!
Can't claim to have climbed it by fair means :) Not yet at least. But the views from the top regardless of how you got there are breathtaking.
Oh yeah, can't wait to hit this mountain hard! Love to ski!
