Quick stop off to walk to the summit enroute to Mammoth Caves.
For some reason I had it in my head that the high point was after the falls...so I hiked down to the falls, and then back to the high point! Really enjoyed the drive and the trail.
Could have walked this joint blind folded. Pit toilets near by for emergency's.
It was a cold and windy morning. I first visited the Lookout Tower. As I climbed the tower I noticed that the metal frame seemed to sway a little because of the wind and then I also found slush on the wet wooden steps (not a good combination, for a spiral staircase). No good views from the tower because of the dense morning fog.
I then trekked up to the State Highpoint for a photo-op. While returning to the car, I met a couple of highpointers from Rhode Island; they were shocked to see another person there so early. We exchanged information regarding our highpoint experiences. Very enjoyable.
Summited a few times with my wife Julie (then girlfriend).
