Ochre Mountain - West Ridge

This photo shows 2530m Ochre Mountain's west side. A NW tributary of McParlon Creek drains the valley at right. Bridge/Lillooet divide, Coast Mountains "Then we plodded back up the steep grassy slopes towards camp. Instead of going straight back we scrambled up a small, gravelly peak that stands out as a signpost in the area. It is a distinct red - brown and probably because of this has been well prospected right to the top. We dubbed this 'Ochre Mountain.' " reference: CAJ Volume 48 1965, p. 65 I did not know it at the time, but during a regular trip to Vancouver, thumbing through old Alpine Journals at the public library, I discovered that I had taken this picture of Ochre Mountain forty years to the day after the first ascent by Rolf and Heather Kellerhals on August 9, 1964. They made other first ascents in this area like Guthrum, Icemaker and White Cross on this same trip. It felt somewhat nostalgic.
