Love the Goat Rocks and Old Snowy is a great side trip Scramble. We sat up there on a clear day and had lunch. I'd forgotten about this so it's posted now to remind me in the future.
Rainy, misty trip.... We had a good clear patch in the afternoon, but clouds closed in again right as we reached the summit. Easy fun peak!
Did the PCT and trail up after camping at Goat Lake the night before. Trip report here.
Which was a good thing; rumor had it there was 2 feet of snow a week or two before we climbed.
With Flanders. Hiked in the afternoon before and camped near the PCT. Up in the morning and then on to Ives.
What a fun little scramble off of the PCT up to a beautiful 360-degree panorama!
If you're on the PCT, you might as well scramble up to this peak; it only takes a few minutes
Camped by big rock off PCT.
Up Snowgrass Flat trail, down Berry Patch trail, 10.5 hours car to car.
Approached from the south, up the snowed-in road to Chambers Lake area, then up Goat Creek onto Snowgrass Flat. Thought I’d died and gone to heaven, the Goat Rocks range must have been designed and constructed by a mountain god who was wanting a place to ski.
Long but awesome climb. Loved it.
Climbed with my daughter at age 8. It was her first and last mountaineering experience. Met Paul Baugher and had a very nice chat. On the way out ExcitableGirl charmed a man with a horse into letting her ride his horse for the entire hike out.
Amazing views! Could see Mt Rainier, Mt St Helens and Mt Adams. Got to see lots of goats and marmots too.
My wife had school work to take care of, so at the last minute I decided to return to the Goat Rocks. This time, my dog Cammie came along for the climb. We ascended to the col just left of Ives from the PCT/Snowgrass junction. The view from here may be the best in the wilderness. We then continued along the ridge crest for a Snowy summit bivy. The hikers on Snowy were surprised to see us coming from that direction! The wind and rain picked up into the night and we made a rapid retreat the next morning. A beautiful area.
Nice little detour to a beautiful viewpoint while hiking from Snowgrass Flats to Goat Lake.
Great area for some great scambling, views, and goats. I did this trip with SouthRaker, check the trip report below.
Hiked up this one from the PCT. Nice views. My first trip to Goat Rocks. I'll be back... Sun set while on top, so any thoughts of scrambling to Ives were erased! Neat to see Adams and Rainier under light of the full moon.
Simple trail to top of Old Snowy, and a fun alpine traverse over to Ives. Red red wine make me feel so fine.
Great area. Sad to see how the glaciers have really melted here.
We have been meaning to do some backpacking in this area for years and finally made it. After checking with the local ranger station, we decided to carry crampons in. NOT NECESSARY AT ALL! Plenty of water in the upper meadows this time of year. Enjoyed a nice chat on the summit with some guys from Seattle and also two Forest Service Rangers.
