Ominous Sign of Huang Gang Shan

After arriving in Wuyishan village, I though I was about 8km from the summit, according to Google Maps. However, when I asked for how to get to the peak, locals were pointing the wrong direction (north) or saying it is impossible or too far. I went south, following Google, but basically wandering along meandering roads and through logging trails through the bamboo forest, when I happened across this road sign on a major highway. At this point I was feeling optimistic. But it lead me back to the town and then sent me north. It took another ~60 road kilometers to get me to the entrance gate. Luckily I didn't have to walk the whole way. Without much a priori info about the mountain, this photo became symbolic of the trip. With outward appearances of accessibility, in fact the mountain is carefully guarded.
