On the ladders

On the ladders

SP members Bob and Eric using the ladders that lead to the lookout. The set up is quite ingenious and effective. A rope is added near the top as an additional help. A book was written about this unique lookout by Malcolm Bates "Three Fingers,The Mountain,The Men and a Lookout" Well worth the effort to find at a library or via Amazon. 8-24-07

Tricky Ladders

Great picture. I made the mistake of stashing my trekking poles horizontally on my pack and had a moment of being stuck between the second and third ladder. Exciting times.

Re: Tricky Ladders

Thanks for the comments and vote on this one. Yeah, the little climb between the second and third ladders is a bit of a surprise and I can see how getting stuck is a possibility. We left our packs down below. Also, we have a discussion going on at NWHIkers that you might find interesting. Eric added some more pics there and I think Bob will too.

Great. Thanks for the links. The last time I did Three Fingers was with Tom of NWHikers. Do you know him?

Re: Tricky Ladders

Tom and I spent three days together in the Enchantments back in 2002. A great guy and an outstanding photographer.
