Also hit up Mt Davidson Mt Bullion and Butler Pk.
Climbed through Spanish Ravine from Virginia City. Very rocky and steep to the top. Great views all around from the top. Continued on to Davidson after this.
Had to walk over and get this one
#1 5-27-17 Out for Nevada county highpoints, my partner and I climbed East Peak in the morning and Mt. Davidson in the afternoon. After Davidson, why not Ophir? Three wild mustangs allowed us to come fairly close as we climbed up from the saddle toward Ophir Hill, and once on top we saw another dozen or so below and to the north. Our GPS showed the distance between Mt. Davidson and Ophir Hill (following the road) at 1.17 miles. I might mention (and I'll do the same on the Mt. Davidson page) that there are several water storage units (towers if you will) at the south end of town. So follow the "in town" street directions if you want to start closer to Ophir Hill. We started at the ones at the south part of town, almost in Gold Hill! Hey, we needed the exercise...
Collected Middle Hill, Ophir Hill, Davidson, Bullion and Butler on a fine November day, some snow on the north facing slopes added to the fun.
On the way to Mount Davidson
Did not take telephone pole route but stayed right on wider dirt/rock road up to and along the ridge past a subsidiary antenna structure up to main towers and rocks.
Short side trip on the way over to Davidson.
Pics and commentary are here.
Touring around Virginia Range between Mt. Davidson and SR341. Trip Report.
Part of a loop with Mount Bullion and Mount Davidson.
Started before dawn with a hike up Ophir Hill. After watching the sun light up the Sierras from the top of the hill, I hiked on to Middle Hill, Cedar Hill, Back to Mount Bullion, Butler Peak and finally to Mt Davidson. Was lucky enough to spot some deer and a band of Mustangs along the way. Great day.
I hiked Ophir Hill up the road under the telephone poles. I hiked Mount Davidson afterwards. The weather was clear and about 50 degrees. Snow has melted on Ophir Hill, with some snow packs on Davidson, but much has melted.
Hike to Ophir Hill on my way to Mt. Davidson. I was amazed by the amount of snow. Postholing sucks. Views from the summit are pretty cool.
