Easy Peasy  Sucess!

Started at 4x4 trailhead. Only one 4x4 section to get there. No roadblocks after exiting I-10. Followed the ridge use trail. Didn't see anyone the whole day. It was very windy and cold on top. Great views of the Salton Sea.

from the north  Sucess!

I only managed to coax the Civic a mile past the power lines so I hiked the remaining distance. It’s better to ignore the wash entirely and use the ridges to the left to attain the northeast ridge that will take you to the summit. Two and a half hours up and an hour and forty minutes down, although I picked up five mylar balloons stuck to foliage on the descent. Great views of the sea to the south.

28 Peaks in 15 Days  Sucess!

Orocopia is a boring mountain with good views of the Salton Sea. Probably our least favorite of this trip. We couldn't understand why this peak is on the DPS list.

Other peaks we did during this trip include; Potosi, Cheyenne, Muddy Mountain, Muddy Peak, Virgin, The Orphan, Silica Dome, Cairn, The Sentinel, East Redstone, Redstone, Mystery Cairn, Vista, Hayford, Clark, McCullough, Spirit, Stepladder, Big Maria, False Maria, Black Butte, Chuckwalla, Pinto, Toro, Santa Rosa, and Thomas.

Nice morning's stroll  Sucess!

With out a map or route description, took a circuitous route to the top, snaking up, down and all around. Did get to see a desert tortoise, 8 big horn sheep, and numerous flowers. Followed a more direct route back down, so all in all, not a bad morning's stroll! (BTW, the Prius was a bit challenged to get to the end of the 2WD bit of road....sandy!)

From the North  Sucess!

Relatively easy hike after hiking to Mastodon Peak and Eagle Mountains H.P. in the morning. It got a little warm in the afternoon, but not too bad. Great views of the Salton Sea from the summit.

Nice hike  Sucess!

Nice day but windy. I followed the north approach except I left the wash below 3,000 ft and climbed over pt 3509. This avoided the 25 ft dry waterfall in the main wash. CA P2k 9/163.

March 2002  Sucess!

Carried over on a 3-day trip with Desert Survivors - started from near Sheep Hole Oasis and I believe we came up from Orocopia Canyon then descended into another canyon and finally hiked out cross-country to Chiriaco Summit. Great dryfall scrambling and desert hiking.

Nice winter climb  Sucess!

Came here a few days after a big storm - ground still soggy and some green on the slopes. Nice easy hike, great views and a lot of fun! My report
