via New Canyon
Hiked up from New Canyon then took the Crest Trail over to Capilla and down the road. Lots of burned areas along the road but New Canyon was mostly untouched by the fires.

First NMMC climb
Nice craggy summit after traveling through a forest from Wizard of Oz.
Route Climbed: New Canyon Trail Date Climbed: February 6, 2006
Nice cool sunny weather. New Canyon Trail departs from New Canyon Campground (between Manzano and the Capilla Peak trailhead). It reaches the Crest Trail in about 2.5 miles; from there its another 1/2 mile or so to the summit. The trail obviously sees very little use, lots of overgrowth and blowdown, no sign of human tracks the whole way. There were a few tiny patches of snow in the shade. Very diverse plany community in the area; I wish it had been summer. There were also many lovely stones and rock outcroppings (quartzite?), creamy, almost translucent white and red.

Route Climbed: Trigo Trail Date Climbed: July 20, 2005The storms cut the time on the summit short, but the entire experience was still great.

Route Climbed: Trigo Trail Date Climbed: July 20, 2005A hot afternoon, a rainy evening, a gorgeous sunset, and a beautiful moon composed the experience of reaching the summit.
