This is one of the coolest places I've ever been to. Pure joy!
Went with a huge group of people from CU. My first time on ice, I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to come back next year!
Climbed with Mike Busby for five days: Schoolroom, New Funtier, South Park, Scottish Gullies and the Shithouse Wall.
Led a couple of WI3's in South Park -- my first ice leads in three years.
Climbed with Steve for 3 days in Feb. 2009. Started in the Schoolroom, then moved on to South Park, New Funtier, and the Scottish Gullies areas.
Also spent 4 days here with Calvin Kilcrease in Feb. 2006 - areas included the Schoolroom, South Park, and New Funtier, mostly WI3-4. Incredible ice everywhere - I thought I had died and gone to heaven ...
Climbed for three days (plus one route by headlamp the night we arrived) in Schoolroom, Grad School, New Funtier, Lower Bridge, Scottish Gullies, and South Park. I felt like we barely scratched the surface. Can't wait to go back.
Great variety of climbs from steep to easy leads. Spend a week or a weekend here.
Headed down with Haliku and Axe. It was a great trip that provided more routes than we had time. Excited to return and put the new crampons to use.
Did a bunch of routes, trying for some sun! Did funtier and South Park. All fun routes, met lots of folks and learnt lots of stuff. Thanks Errin and Ned!
I'm hooked. My first visit was with Rkymtn and Axe for three days of play. This will be an annual visit.
went in '07, missed '08, hope to be back in '09. very fun festival!
Climbed 20 or so in 2 days plus spent 1 day in the backcountry climbing some of the great ice outside of town
14 routes in 2 days, great opportunity for Zach to gain a ton of experience in a short time. He was willing to do the driving, so how could I resist. We did two routes the night we got there completely in the dark with headlamps. He said that actually helped him more than just about anything. Can't wait to get some of the back country done in this area. Don't know if that will happen since I go to Canada so much, but I have to admit, it was nice climbing in 0+C for a change.
This place is incredible. Climbed 4 routes in the South Park area.
Another great yearly trip to Ouray with the gang.
Made the drive from So Cal to join in the fun! A great festival and got in a ton of climbing even with all of the people. Great place and great people made for an awesome weekend!!!
Nice ice, climbed there thrice.
Lots of fun climbs, Can't wait for the 2008 ice fest
I was out there for a Chicks with Picks clinic Feb 4-8 and had a blast! We climbed in the Schoolroom, South Park & Scottish Gullies. Everything from WI3-5. Great fun!
I'll definately head back out there as much as possible!
climbing there. Talk about heaven...tons of ice everywhere. Great climbing. Hot Springs afterwards...steak at the Outlaw. Priceless.
snow camped for 2 weeks and did every route in the guide and then some! were leading 2 levels stronger by the end. did some routes in the middle of night under a full moon. good photography practice for my friend...she took some good ones of us silouetted from the refletion of our lamp lights off the ice, surrounded by the glow of the moon off the ice. pretty cool.
After Mark phoned & told me that he couldn't make it due to illness (I was in my truck on my way to Ouray at the time), I decided to go ahead & try anyway. It worked out, as I found Constance who'd just finished the lease on her apartment in SoCal & decided it was time for a break- i.e. go learn to ice climb in Ouray, then see where things take her. Thanks- I had a fun time! Loved just being there in the winter amidst the snowy beauty. The hot springs & haunted(?) Historic Western Hotel (great to meet you too Alina) were wonderful too! Can't wait to go back. TR'd at School Room as well as S. Park.
