Product Description

Countour Elliptic Shock

The Countour Elliptic Shock has Black Diamond's revolutionary shock-absorbing technology.

This is a great trekking pole that is solid enough while ascending that it doesn't collapse and feel rubberish but flexible enough to cushion the body during descents. This is achieved through Black Diamond's patent-pending Control Shock Technology™ (CST), the pole’s progressive four-stage shock absorption handles hard compression without bottoming out.

Another plus is the design on the poles themselves. The elliptical shape increases overall pole stability and also helps avoid pole collapse when weighted.

The last feature are the dual FlickLocks for solid and sure adjustments.

Additional features include dual-density grip tops, foam grip extensions which come in handy while ascending steep terrain, 360-degree Nubuck straps, Long Flex Tips and trekking baskets.

The Compact model, which is a shorter, 125 cm version has reduced grip size for smaller hands.

Usable Length: 76-140 cm (30"-55")

Minimum storage length: 68 cm (27")

Weight: 362 grams each (12 ounces each)

Color: Blue, Silver and Black.

The poles are shipped with small baskest and changing to snow baskets is uncomplicated.

From Backcountry.com:

"Black Diamond pulled out all the stops to make the Contour Elliptic Shock Trekking Poles incredibly comfortable to use when you hit the trail. A shock absorber eases abuse on your arms, and the Elliptic Trekking Poles include forward-leaning ergonomic grips to ease wrist strain. Oval shafts decrease flexing and increase durability. These plush trekking poles even come with dual-density padded straps to cradle your wrists while you hike. Black Diamond added their FlickLock adjustment system to fluid, dependable length changes. From Altrec Outdoors:

"Incorporating BD's revolutionary shock-absorbing technology, the new Contour Elliptic Shock has, well, shocked the trekking pole world. Built using patent-pending Control Shock Technology, (CST), the pole's progressive four-stage shock absorption handles hard compression without bottoming out. The CST's unrivaled dampness absorbs light and medium strikes without the ineffective pogo-ing rebound of inferior shock systems. The patent-pending external design maximizes pole collapsibility and is stealthy quiet, meaning no more, click, clack, click, clack, associated with other shock-absorbing trekking poles. Additionally, the elliptic shape of the pole provides twice the fore and aft stiffness of round-shafted poles. The Contour Elliptic Shocks also feature dual FlickLocks for solid and sure adjustments, dual-density grip tops, foam grip extensions, 360-degree Nubuck straps, Long Flex Tips and trekking baskets. It also comes in a Compact model, which is a shorter, 125 cm version with reduced grip size for smaller hands."

From Campmor:

"Black Diamond's Contour Elliptic Shock trekking poles have an elliptic shape that provides twice the fore and aft stiffness of round-shafted poles. The poles also feature the patent-pending Control Shock Technology (CST) for progressive four-stage shock absorption. Light weight Elliptical Aluminum shafts resist corrosion and offer less flex than traditional round poles. The patent-pending Control Shock Technology (CST) is a progressive four-stage shock absorption system that handles hard compression without bottoming out. The CST absorbs light and medium strikes without a pogo-ing rebound. The external design maximizes pole collapsibility and is very quiet. Dual Density PE grips for comfort plus an extended foam sleeve on the upper shafts that has ridges and is made of soft, comfortable EVA foam to handle switchbacks and abrupt changes in terrain easily. Dual FlickLocks offer simple, easy pole adjustments. To adjust the pole you "flick" the lock open with your finger, slide the section to where you want it and press the lock closed for solid and sure adjustments. Adjustable fully padded webbing wrist strap for comfort. Long Flex Tips and low profile trekking baskets included. Usable Length 76-140 cm (30"-55") Minimum storage length 68 cm (27") Weight 362 grams each (12 ounces each) Color: Blue, Silver and Black. Import."

Awesome Poles
At a Cost anywhere from $95 to $125 on-line the Countour Elliptic Shock is a great value with some high end features.

I really like these poles.
