This stretch of the PCT is quite nice with beautiful changes of scenery. Great views from the summit. Returned via Pacifico Mountain Road.
Brought a rope for the highest summit block. I used the rope for protection, not aid, but was glad I had it. No one else on the trail or at the top.
mountain biked to the top, discovered some nice boulders worthy of climbing (some had top rope anchors).
A loop hike including Iron # 3, Roundtop, Pacifico, Granite # 1, & Rabbit # 1. A little breeze helped to keep the temperature down a little. While the area is very dry and barren, the views are far-reaching. Fun summit block!
Rode mtn Bike to the summit via Pacifico Mtn Road. Easy way down.
PCT to the summit and then the road to Granite Mountain. Great weather and not one other person the whole day!
My least favorite hike. PCT was closed and had to take the ugly dirt road all the way. Everything is burnt from the station fire until about a mile from the summit.
Had a close encounter with a large-sized black bear about halfway up. Couldn't find a register.
Was pretty weak and walked most of the way along the PCT while my buddy was more than capable of jogging it.
Great hike with the wife and dog.
Bagged Round Top, Granite, Gleason and Pacifico today. Nice day!
Hiked up to the campground and camped the night, It was actually really nice.
with Hillyer. Pacifico is nicer than I expected
Hiked with Mike Oliva from Angeles Crest Hwy (SR 2) via Sulphur Springs camp on Halloween eve. Repeated one other time solo going over and down to Mill Creek station and then returning. Long hike!
Another day of HPS peakbagging, another fine day of weather in SoCal. Trip Report
One of my high school instructors took a group of us up there for rock climbing instruction. We scrambled all over while on the summit area.
Drove up to the campground. Average views, obstructed by many trees.
Did a trail run to the summit from Mill Creek Summit. I took the ridge all the way from the trailhead (it runs high above and to the right of the PCT) to the summit and took the PCT coming back. What a well maintained trail the PCT is in this area. It was a beautiful day. Couldn't find the summit register but I did find a couple of campers who had driven up.
Went up from Mill Creek Summit with a big Sierra Club group. Nice hike.
Didn't bother to check the weather--was so sunny in L.A.--big surprise at Mill Creek though when I finally got there around noon. Cold wind, snow higher up, and me in shorts. So changed into spare capris I luckily had in the Jeep. Bagged the trail for the road on the return, as I'd had enough of postholing in the crusty snow near the top. Tagged Granite Mountain on the way back. Fun day.
