Neat page, can't wait to get over to Hawaii, don't know how motivated I will be to hike, though :).

When I visited Hawaii earlier this year, I thought about doing a Kilauea page, but I figured it would have been deemed unacceptable by the membership. I was clearly wrong. I also did not want to maintain a mountain I did not live close to (for monitoring purposes, and the park sees rapid changes regularly). I would submit photos, but they're all the same stuff you've posted. Well done.

Aaron,

Thanks for the vote and comments. I also considered that people might not find it acceptable, but I just figured that it was certainly a mountain by most standards, and there was a lot of info to share.

I think that sharing information is what SP is all about, and I know that I would have benefited from a page like this greatly before my own Hawaii trip, so I figured I would add it. I used SP quit a bit when I did research for my own trip there, and I was surprised that Kilauea wasn't on here.

There always one or two folks that might not "approve" of pages like this, but that's OK. I think the majority of members here prefer to have more rather than less information on SP, as long as it falls within the scope of the website.

My biggest concern about posting this page was a lack of "good" photos. I then found the USGS website where I found the ones on the main page, and decided to use those fantastic photos for most of the page. If you have any good photos, feel free to put them up. It's a big place - I'm sure you have some in different places than I do.

Take care,

ed

Cool stuff! Very dramatic and once again I'm reminded of the Canarias. There the last outbreak was in 1971 piling up this volcano. The earth is still hot in places but you can hike it.
