Painted Lady on Goldenrod

Painted Lady on Goldenrod

There was a large amout of Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) butterflies in this small meadow filled with goldenrods in bloom. This is just one of tens of them. Pine Creek area of Red Rocks, Nevada. September 2007. Mescalito is visible in the background.

Re: Beautiful butterfly !

Thank you. I was lucky that they liked these colorful flowers. Sometimes butterflies will land on the ground looking around for salts and then it's not such great photo opportunity. Greetings, Anya.

Re: brass wall &

Thank you. Doesn't it. It's such a beauty. When I started hiking/scrambling in Red Rocks, I left Mescalito for later on purpose for several years just so I have something special to look forward to and I wasn't disappointed.
BTW, did you see any wildlife on your recent trip to Red Rocks?

"BTW, did you see any wildlife on your recent trip to Red Rocks?"

unfortunately no - not a bighorn, not a burro. Weird? Guess 1.5 days is not long enough maybe to get lucky??

Re: brass wall &

Well, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. My latest spotting of bighorns was on October 1, but none in September. They are generally much more elusive now than in spring.
A lot of the burros have been relocated but there is still a small amont of them around.

Re: brass wall &

I think in order to help the native species prosper. I kind of miss them though.
