Paiute Pillar
I did Bird Hunter and Paiute three weeks apart. About the same really. Paiute starts lower and takes advantage of 200' of good rock before intersecting the start of Bird Hunter. The two PG 13 pitches (per FA topo) were no worse rock than the two soft pitches on Bird Hunter in about the same region. The scary pitch was actually the 5.8 pitch higher up with the only fixed gear on the route, a line of worthless bolts covering bad white rock. There is pro, just not of the confidence building variety. For sure best to take the Bird Hunter 5.9 corner vs the crappy 5.7 pitch and then just finish on Bird Hunter via its best pitch, the tricky 5.9 chimney which gets you over to the Brown Recluse raps. With Fossana (SP). Over 11 hrs car to car.
