Panorama of Adil-Su Valley and Elbrus area.

Panorama of Adil-Su Valley and Elbrus area. The panorama shots are taken at approx. 3400m over Djan Tugan Alp Camp on the way to Gurmichi summit 4045m. I hope that there is no mistakes, but if you find any mistakes please correct me. The altitudes are taken from various maps, I know that they vary a lot. For instance I found 3 altitudes for Djan Tugan: 3991, 3999 and 4000m. For Bashkara the same. Please add any more information/comments you think.

Question

Great panorama! How long ago have You been in the area? I would like to go there next summer and wonder if Djantugan Alp Camp is still working... Have You stayed there? Do You have any contact info? I couldn't find a telephone number in the Internet... Very good picture, helps to visualise route information!

Re: Question

Thanks for comments and voting. The panorama was taken in end of July 2005. We used Djantugan Alp Camp as base to climb Gurmachi 4045m, MNR tower 3870m, Elbrus and Ushba (we failed there). I was in the area this summer (2007) also. We stayed in Saklya Hotel/Camping, near Elbrus village (not quite satisfied). The main problem with people who don't speak Russian (like we do) is the communication/licence etc, so both times we were in Caucasus we used a trekking company for everything: transportation, camps, licence, communication. That was www.alp4all.com so maybe you can contact with Sveta for infos about Djantugan Alp Camp. We are very satisfied with her work, but I suppose that you don't want a guide for the area.

We passed through Djantugan Alp Camp this summer also (we climbed Djantugan) and seemed working normally like 2 years ago.
If you need any other infos for the area, please send a PM.
I will be add some photos from Djantugan soon, I have to scan the slides.

Greetings Teo

Re: Question

Thank You very much for info! I speak Russian, so I didn't have any problems in Caucasus this July, but I suppose, that for people who don't, it is a major obstacle... By the way, I have already found contact info for Djantugan BC - www.jan-tugan.bmstu.ru. I am looking forward to see Your pictures, please inform me when You upload them! Thanks for help - I will write You if I have question about the area. Best wishes!
